About The Position

Physician Assistant needed for surgical coverage in Potsdam, NY. This locum tenens position involves providing comprehensive care to hospitalized patients in General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedics. The role includes serving as a Surgical First Assist in the Operating Room and performing Medical Surgical Floor coverage. Participation in on-call duties is also required.

Requirements

• Active New York License
• Board Certified (Physician Assistant)
• BLS, ACLS, ATLS (AHA)
• Minimum 2 years recent experience in surgery
• Epic experience required
• No residents or fellows accepted

• Packing sponges in body
• Positioning patient to maintain circulation and access for surgeon
• Placing clamps and sutures
• Closing skin with adhesives, sutures, or staples
• Applying direct pressure on veins and tissue
• Performing or aiding in patient suction, drainage, and irrigation
• Hemostasis: stopping of excess bleeding and blood flow
• Immobilizing patients on the operating table

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive care to hospitalized patients as a Physician Assistant in General Surgery, OB/GYN, and Orthopedics.
• Serve as Surgical First Assist in the Operating Room, including cauterizing, suturing, positioning, and hemostasis.
• Perform Medical Surgical Floor coverage including rounding, progress notes, order management, discharges, and consults.
• Participate in on-call coverage including weeknight and weekend shifts.
• Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia, and nursing staff to ensure patient safety and quality care.
