The Direct Orthopedic Care PA Residency Program offers a unique and comprehensive educational curriculum for graduate physician assistants, focusing on advanced training in orthopedic surgery, non-operative sports medicine, and injury prevention. The program aims to optimize patient care efficiency, foster teamwork among healthcare professionals, and develop residents' understanding of orthopedic subspecialties, physical exam skills, critical thinking, decision-making, and operative techniques. Graduates will be equipped to practice independently in nonoperative orthopedics and retain highly qualified PAs seeking to enhance their skills. The curriculum is structured around Academics, Clinical Skills, and Professional Development & Leadership, incorporating a didactic portion similar to PGY-1 orthopedic surgery residents, utilizing Orthobullets and CAQ exam topics. Residents will gain experience in outpatient clinics, first-assist in the operating room, and exposure to radiology, musculoskeletal ultrasound, sports rehabilitation, regenerative medicine, and pediatric orthopedics, with specific rotations in sports medicine, arthroplasty, upper extremity, orthobiologics, spine, hand, and pediatrics. An in-depth orientation provides foundational skills for success.
