About The Position

The OHSU Department of Emergency Medicine (DEM) is seeking a full-time physician to join our team to be staffed in the emergency department at Adventist Health Portland. The Adventist Health Portland emergency department serves largely an urban environment on the east side of Portland, caring for over 50,000 patient visits per year. The department sees a diverse patient population and has a very active stroke and cardiac program, receiving the most cardiac arrest resuscitations in Multnomah County. There is excellent engagement with the hospitalist service. The ED has initiated a research agenda and is participating in studies related to cardiac arrest recovery. This is an academic site with opportunities for teaching medical students. The position is under the supervision of the Medical Director, with OHSU’s Department of Emergency Medicine. Responsibilities include working with the interdisciplinary team to achieve quality of care, patient safety, and service excellence goals, in support of OHSU and the School of Medicine missions.

Requirements

  • MD or equivalent
  • Emergency Medicine Residency Certificate
  • Knowledge, training and experience in clinical and academic Emergency Medicine
  • Demonstrated ability to satisfy standards of performance delineated by law
  • Ability to manage heavy workload with multiple priorities and inflexible deadlines
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
  • Proficient in the use of computing hardware and software, including personal computing equipment, electronic medical record, word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Regular and consistent attendance at work
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required
  • ABEM or ABOEM Board certified or board eligible
  • Current unlimited Oregon MD (or equivalent) license prior to start date
  • Completion of credentialing process and approval by the OHSU Professional Board to practice as an independent practitioner in an acute care/emergency setting
  • Registration with Federal Drug Enforcement Administration and authorization to prescribe medications prior to start date

Responsibilities

  • Staffing the Adventist Health Portland Emergency Department as assigned by the Chair
  • Participation in education of medical and paramedic students, house staff and nurses
  • Participating in Emergency Department quality assurance activities
  • Working with the interdisciplinary team in the emergency department to achieve quality of care, patient safety, and service excellence goals
