About The Position

Matrix Providers is hiring a Physician Assistant to join our team of talented professionals who provide health care services to our Military Service Members and their families in San Antonio, TX. The Physician Assistant will provide a full range of Physician Assistant services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of their training and privileges granted by the MTF. This includes supervising and providing general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any organ systems; providing immunizations; diagnosing, treating, and counseling patients as indicated. The role involves technically directing and providing care for various diseases and types of injuries (i.e., acute, chronic, and minor trauma), recognizing emergency conditions, diagnosing, prescribing for, and treating diseases, disorders, and injuries, and referring more complex cases and severe conditions to qualified medical personnel. The Physician Assistant will also technically direct and teach other staff, provide educational lectures, and participate in in-service training for staff members. Promoting preventive care and health maintenance, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care through formal and individual education and counseling is a key aspect of the role. Prescribing by approved treatment protocols and Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee-approved medications and immunizations, and performing specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures within the scope of practice are also required. Establishing collaborative rapport with physicians, nursing, and others to promote and facilitate primary care services, and teaching patients and family members healthy regimens and responsibility for achieving wellness are essential. Attending staff meetings for case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement is expected. A primary duty of this position is to provide occupational medical evaluations of military members with medical problems who are undergoing MEB or TDRL. To the extent that the primary duty allows, and to ensure currency in practice skills, other clinical patients will be managed. The PA will provide and supervise medical care for orthopedic conditions, treat patients in accordance with protocols, counsel patients directly and indirectly as required, and order appropriate diagnostic tests. A key responsibility is to write a narrative summary detailing the findings, assessment, and recommendation concerning retention/deployment for individual military members undergoing MEB or TDRL. The PA will prescribe medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and coordinate patient care through a continuum to facilitate optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality, and cost effectiveness. The role requires compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF, and provision of care within ethical and legal boundaries. Participation in committees, functions, and other meetings as directed is also required, providing relevant and timely information to these groups, and assisting with decision making and process improvement. Participation in customer service initiatives and medical readiness activities designed to enhance health services is also expected.

Requirements

• Degree: Bachelor's degree.
• Graduated from an accredited college or university with at least a Bachelor of Science degree certified by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
• Pass the PANCE from a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician's Assistants (NCCPA).
• National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) designation Physician Assistant-Certifies (PA-C).
• 24 months experience in Orthopedic patient care within the last 36 months.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Physician Assistant as required in the TO.
• U.S. Citizen.
