About The Position

Provides Physician Assistant (PA) services by collecting data required for diagnosis and performing procedures and services. Obtains and evaluates medical histories, performs physical examinations, performs therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, and orders laboratory studies, radiographs, electrocardiograms, and other special examinations. Collects specimens for pathologic examination. Analyzes and interprets data, formulates problem lists, and establishes plans for solution of clinical problems. Counsels patients on medical problems, use of drugs, expected effects of treatment, family planning, childcare, diet, and other therapeutic health maintenance matters. Makes entries in patient's permanent medical records. In emergency situations, administers lifesaving procedures and medications pending availability of physician. Initiates consultation requests to other health professionals to provide more comprehensive patient management. Instructs other personnel assigned to health care team on preventive medicine programs and other appropriate medical activities and functions as directed. Assists the orthopedic surgeons in the operating room. The PA will perform nonoperative management of various fractures. The PA must be proficient with orthopedic casting and injections.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a physician assistant education program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.
  • Graduate Physician Assistant qualified by academic and practical education to provide patient services as a physician extender under supervision of a physician.
  • Successfully completed an accredited Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant residency or fellowship program that is at least twelve (12) months in length.
  • Certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Active, current, valid, unrestricted license from a U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Actively practiced as an Orthopedic Surgery Physician Assistant or in training for twenty-four (24) months within the last thirty-six (36) months and able to demonstrate clinical and surgical first assistant competency.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Red Cross.
  • Obtain and maintain the site's required health screening and immunization requirements.
  • Obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks.
  • Obtain and maintain all required documents, certifications, licenses, etc. listed on the credentialling checklist, sent by Katmai’s Credentialing Specialist, for this position for initial hire.
  • Must have or be able to attain a valid state driver’s license and be insurable on the company’s automobile insurance policy.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in established peer (other medical specialist) review process monthly.
