About The Position

The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner evaluates and treats patients for pain related to spine conditions and sports injuries under the direction of the interventional pain management physician. No narcotic pain management is involved. This position supports Dr. Ron Chatterjee, who is part of the medical team for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and works with a broad range of orthopaedic and sports medicine cases. This position is subject to PTO blackout the last ten (10) business days of December each year.

Requirements

  • Physician Assistants NCCPA Certification with unencumbered medical license from Florida Board of Medicine
  • Completion of a two-year accredited Physician Assistant program (two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of PA program
  • State accreditation based on certifying exam
  • ANCC National Board certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Adult-Gerontology Acute Care or Orthopedics
  • Current, unencumbered Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in the State of Florida
  • Graduate of an accredited NP Program (Master’s or Doctoral degree)
  • Maintains active licensure, certifications, and continuing education requirements for all affiliated facilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, willingness to learn, and commitment to patient care and best outcomes
  • Exercises professional judgment regarding consultation with supervising physicians concerning appropriate treatments
  • Ability to effectively understand, follow, and communicate oral and written instructions in English.
  • Must read, write, and speak English fluently to ensure clear work-related communication and patient safety

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients with spine or sports injury pain under the supervision of the attending orthopedic interventional pain management physician.
  • Gathers patient history and performs physical exams for interventional pain management patients.
  • Reviews charts, diagnostic studies, procedures, and consultations commonly required in the assessment of orthopedic interventional pain management patients including but not limited to: Pain and functional assessments and interpreting radiology studies including X-Rays, MRIs, and CT scans of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine.
  • Formulates treatment plans to help patients alleviate pain and maintain functional independence.
  • Communicates effectively with Physician and clinical staff regarding patient management.
  • Orders appropriate non-narcotic medications, imaging, therapy, and orders for pain management and related treatments.
  • Refers patients as needed to appropriate settings such as hospital emergency rooms and other outpatient practices.
  • In the event consultation with protocol physician is needed, telephone contact may be made.
  • Opportunity exists for performing joint and trigger point injections.
  • Focus is on non-operative and non-narcotic management of pain for patients through rehabilitation, therapy, and appropriate interventional procedures.
  • Collaborates with Scribes and Physician Support Specialists to accomplish limited administrative tasks such as obtaining documentation and/or medical records.
