About The Position

UPMC Community General Hospital, Harrisburg Hospital, West Shore Hospital, Hanover Hospital, Memorial Hospital and Carlisle Hospitals are hiring Full-Time Physician Assistants or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners to help support our Emergency Departments. This role offers a New Graduate Training Program (APEP) for new graduates, which is a structured, hands-on program designed to provide essential skills, clinical knowledge, and confidence needed to excel as an APP in an Emergency Department. The program includes personalized mentorship, extensive clinical training, and ongoing education alongside experienced healthcare professionals. The position involves rotating 10-hour shifts, with 8 shifts per week and every other weekend required. The APP will work in various hospital settings, including basic/urgent care areas, performing provider in triage roles, and working in main departments with attendings to manage patients at all levels of care, including those with stroke symptoms, requiring respiratory or cardiac support, and urgent care needs.

Requirements

Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP): The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required.
Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required.
National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing.
Current CPR certification is required.
Act 33 Clearance will be required.
Act 73 Clearance will be required.
Act 34 Clearance required.
Physician Assistant (PA): A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required.
Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.
Current CPR certification is required.
Act 33 Clearance will be required.
Act 73 Clearance will be required.
Act 34 Clearance required.
Senior Level: The successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or a graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) program is required.
Completion of National Certification.
ACLS or ITLS or NALS or PALS or ACLS or other certifications listed must meet AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
OAPP: If practicing in an outpatient or other non-inpatient setting, APPs can use one of the certifications above or use a business unit approved certification which is relevant, and value added to the practice setting.

Nice To Haves

2 years' experience in Emergency Department, Urgent Care, or completion of an Emergency Medicine Fellowship.
BSN, MSN is preferred for CRNP.
Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred.
BS or MS candidate is preferred for PA.
Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred.
Minimum 3 years of experience or Completion of a post-graduate residency for Senior Level.
BSN, MSN preferred for CRNP, BS or MS preferred for PA.
Must achieve a Solid/Strong/Good performance rating or higher on annual performance evaluation for consideration and to maintain status annually.
Completion of an OAPP approved professional contribution within one year of hire or promotion into the position.
Must have department chair approval for promotion.
