About The Position

Assist in the care and treatment of patients as delegated by a physician. This role involves promoting and maintaining patient health by providing medical services under the supervision of a physician. Key duties include obtaining patient histories, performing physical examinations, diagnosing injuries or illnesses, and administering treatments such as setting broken bones and prescribing medicine. The position also requires performing salutary procedures, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and providing patient counseling on health habits. Additionally, the role involves instructing patients on physician-ordered diets, physical therapy, and the use of therapeutic adjuncts. A significant part of the role includes assisting the supervising physician in managing hospitalized patients, which may involve checking on their clinical status, explaining tests, reporting progress, assisting with documentation, arranging follow-up care, assisting in surgery, and making rounds. The physician assistant or nurse practitioner is expected to comply with all state laws, rules, and regulations governing their practice.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited PA or NP program.
  • May require working at multiple locations.
  • Valid Driver’s License, satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR) and proof of insurance required for position on-boarding.
  • Annual MVR may be required per policy and procedure; background reports may be ran as needed throughout the course of employment.
  • NCCPA Board Certification or NP Board certified.
  • Must maintain BLS certification.
  • Current State License.
  • DEA (if applicable).

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year experience in orthopaedics.
  • ACLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Promote and maintain patient health by providing medical services under supervision of a physician.
  • Obtain a detailed patient history and record appropriate findings in the patient records.
  • Complete a systematic and thorough physical examination. Make diagnoses concerning a patient’s injury or illness. Give treatment such as setting broken bones and prescribe medicine when needed.
  • Perform salutary procedures by administering injections and managing wounds and infections.
  • Order, perform, interpret and schedule, when appropriate, diagnostic studies.
  • Provide counseling on health habits, exercise, tobacco, and alcohol.
  • Provide instruction on supervising physician orders: (a) diet, (b) physical therapy (i.e. lumbar flexion exercises, range of motion, home arthritis therapy, activities of daily living, use of crutches or walker) and (c) use of physical adjuncts to therapy (i.e. nebulizer, vaporizer, etc.).
  • Assist supervising physician in management of hospitalized patients (with concurrent hospital approval for such a role) plus: check on clinical status of patient, explain tests or therapy, report on progress to physician, check on report of studies, assist in documentation of care, within limits of hospital regulations, transfer copies of hospital data to office records when appropriate, arrange for post hospitalization follow-up care, assist in surgery, and make rounds when appropriate.
  • Understand and comply with the current laws, rules and regulations governing P.A. or NP practice of the state.
