About The Position

Emplify Health by Gundersen is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner with a strong interest in hospital medicine for a 1.0 FTE position at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran in West Union, Iowa. The clinician will provide medical care to hospitalized patients at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital and Clinics, a 25-bed critical access hospital with emergency, medical-surgical, labor and delivery, clinic, and outreach specialty services. The hospital’s average daily census is 6–8 acute-care and post-acute-care patients. The role includes admission history and physicals, daily patient evaluations, diagnostic and treatment decisions, discharge planning, and documentation. The clinician works with an interdisciplinary team of nurses, therapists, and social workers, and receives telemedicine-based oversight and support from Gundersen Health System hospitalist physicians in La Crosse. Telehospitalists provide daytime supervision and support and handle overnight calls and admissions. The position works 10-hour shifts, four days per week. Advanced practice clinicians work under the direct supervision of a physician. Clinicians may be asked to provide outreach services within the system. Teaching students, residents, fellows, or clinical staff is an expectation of all clinicians, consistent with the organization’s medical education mission.

Requirements

Complete an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
Be eligible to obtain a license to practice in the multi-state region without restrictions or limitations.
