About The Position

This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary services to support optimal patient care and disposition for neurosurgical patients. The ideal candidate is a Physician Assistant who genuinely enjoys nocturnist work and is comfortable with a dedicated overnight schedule. They should be clinically confident, adaptable, and comfortable in a high-acuity environment, demonstrating strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills. The ability to work independently while recognizing when to escalate care is crucial, as is effective communication with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff. This position offers an opportunity to learn and develop expertise in neurosurgical care. Experienced nocturnist Physician Assistants are strongly encouraged to apply, particularly those interested in learning a new specialty and building a career in neurosurgery. New graduate PAs are also encouraged to apply, as the program has significant experience training and mentoring new graduates.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current Texas Physician Assistant license.
• National board certification as a Physician Assistant.
• Eligible for hospital credentialing and clinical privileges.
• Prescriptive authority as applicable.
• Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
• Basic Life Support (BLS): BLS or BLS within 30 days of hire or transfer.

Nice To Haves

• Prior inpatient, ICU, emergency medicine, hospitalist, surgical, or neurosurgical experience preferred, but not required.
• Experienced nocturnist Physician Assistants are strongly encouraged to apply.
• New graduate PAs are also encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate multidisciplinary services to support optimal patient care and disposition.
• Serve as the sole neurosurgery Physician Assistant in-house overnight.
• Act as the primary overnight provider for neurosurgical patients and new consultations.
• Collaborate with the nocturnal neurocritical care APP team.
• Participate in surgery when appropriate, with limited routine first-assist responsibilities overnight.
