This is a 15-month rigorous Emergency Medicine Fellowship program at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, founded in 2009. The program is designed to graduate competent Physician Assistants (PAs) in Emergency Medicine (EM) and advanced procedures, modeled on guidelines from the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP), Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), and the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The fellowship includes a 1-month part-time online onboarding boot-camp with virtual modules, CME accredited lectures, and mentorship, followed by 14 months of full-spectrum emergency medicine hands-on training. The didactic curriculum covers NCCPA CAQ-EM topics, weekly PA and Physician Resident level training, professional development series, and various symposia and conferences. Rotations include on-site experiences in Anesthesia, Ultrasonography, Orthopedics, Respiratory Care, Surgical Intensive Care Unit, Burn Unit, Pediatrics, and Psychiatry, as well as offsite rotations at San Bernardino Detention Centers, Emergency Medical Services, Street Medicine, and Diabetic Youth Camp. The program also includes wellness and professional development events, and certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS, ATLS, and the CAPA-Controlled Substance Education Course. Fellows receive intentional mentorship and will graduate with a Certificate of Program Completion, Procedure Certificates of Competency, a Milestone Project, and CME credits. This is a paid post-graduate training fellowship with benefits and malpractice insurance included.
