About The Position

This position involves performing physical exams and assessments of patients, including urgent, emergent, and non-urgent presentations. The Physician Assistant will select, order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, analyze reports, and diagnose patients in collaboration with a supervising physician. Responsibilities include prescribing treatment, therapy, medication, and other specialized medical care, as well as referring patients to PCPs or specialists. The role also involves performing procedures such as laceration repair, IVs, removal of foreign bodies, splinting and casting, and ear irrigations. The Physician Assistant will utilize practice guidelines and standardized procedures, perform DOT physicals, explain procedures and test results to patients, and document findings in electronic medical records. Collaboration with medical practices and emergency room physicians is expected, along with maintaining an up-to-date knowledge base for medical conditions and injuries common in an urgent care setting.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of computer skills.
  • Maintains the necessary CME credits to maintain licensure.
  • Demonstrate ability to stay organized; is able to multi-task effectively.
  • Demonstrate time management, conflict resolution, and trouble shooting skills.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Physician Assistant: Certification of completion from an approved Physician Assistant program.
  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of Maryland.
  • Current DEA license.
  • Current Maryland Controlled Substance license.
  • NRCME DOT examination certificate required.
  • Current BLS Certification through American Heart Association or an approved training center.
  • License to practice in any state that has never been suspended or revoked.
  • Has not been excluded from participation from any Payers.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with prior electronic medical records (EMR) is preferred.
  • 1+ years of experience in hospital or outpatient setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical exams and assessments of patients including urgent, emergent, and non-urgent presentations.
  • Select, order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests including X-rays as appropriate in collaboration with supervising physician.
  • Analyze reports and findings of tests to diagnose patients in collaboration with supervising physician as appropriate.
  • Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat or prevent illness and injury in collaboration with supervising physician.
  • Refer patient to PCP or specialist as appropriate.
  • Perform procedures including laceration repair, IVs removal of foreign bodies, splinting and casting, and ear irrigations.
  • Utilize practice guidelines and standardized procedures in collaboration with the supervising physicians in providing medical care to patients.
  • Perform DOT physicals.
  • Explain procedures, discuss test results, and prescribe treatments to patients.
  • Document findings and treatment courses in patient electronic medical records including follow-up notes.
  • Interact with medical practices and emergency room physicians to create a cooperative atmosphere.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base for medical conditions and injuries that may be present in an urgent care setting.
