About The Position

This position provides patient care assistance in a clinic setting within specialized areas, under the supervision of a primary care physician. The role involves direct patient services, taking detailed histories, performing physical examinations, determining tentative diagnoses, ordering laboratory tests, and counseling patients and families on health and disease. Responsibilities may also include suturing minor wounds, assisting in surgery, applying and removing casts and traction apparatus, and performing other therapeutic procedures under physician supervision. The role may also involve supervising other Physician's Assistants and adhering to internal controls.

Requirements

• Completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
• No experience required
• Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
• Licensed Physician Assistant by the Texas Physician Assistant Board/Texas Medical Board (TPAB/TMB)

Responsibilities

• Provides patient services under direct supervision and responsibility of a physician.
• Elicits detailed patient histories and does complete physical examinations.
• Determines tentative diagnosis and orders appropriate laboratory tests.
• Counsels patient and family on health and disease.
• Sutures minor wounds, assists in surgery, apply and remove casts and traction apparatus, and perform other therapeutic procedures under supervision of a physician.
• May supervise other Physician's Assistants.
• Adheres to internal controls established for department.
• Performs related duties as required.
