About The Position

In accordance with RNP’s Mission Statement, Philosophy of Client Care, and Code of Ethics as stated in the Personnel Policies and under the supervision of the Medical Director, diagnoses and treats substance abuse. The role involves examining clients to determine general physical condition, conducting admission physical exams to determine appropriateness for First Step Detox level of care, and performing as needed/scheduled follow-up physicals to address client-specific needs. The position requires coordination with nursing and staff for comprehensive care and disposition planning, ordering laboratory tests and evaluating data, and prescribing protocol-driven treatment plans for substance withdrawal (methadone, suboxone, benzodiazepines). The Physician Assistant/APRN will advise clients on diet, hygiene, and disease prevention, be available by phone after hours on assigned days for nursing staff questions, and refer clients to medical specialists or other practitioners for specialized treatment. Responsibilities also include reviewing client medical records for accuracy and completeness, recommending and participating in staff education and training sessions, and flexibly assisting with PTO coverage for peer providers. The role assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor and/or program director.

Requirements

Valid State of Connecticut medical license required.
Knowledge of substance abuse treatment.
Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations regarding client confidentiality.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships.
Must be technologically adept with basic computer/software programs ie Microsoft word, excel, willing to learn EHR.
Proof of active and unrestricted medical licenses specific to either PA-C and or NP.
DEA, Controlled Substances at State Level.

Responsibilities

Examines clients to determine general physical condition.

Orders laboratory tests and evaluates data obtained.
Prescribes protocol driven treatment plans tailored to specific substance withdrawal (methadone, suboxone, benzodiazepines).
Advises clients concerning diet, hygiene and methods for prevention of disease.
Will be available by phone after hours to answer specific questions on assigned days from nursing staff.
Refers clients to medical specialist or other practitioner for specialized treatment.
Reviews client medical records for accuracy and completeness.
Recommends subject matter for and participates in staff education and training sessions.
Flexible assisting with PTO coverage for peer providers.
Assumes all other appropriate duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor and/or program director.
