About The Position

The practice of a physician assistant shall include medical services within the education, training and experience of the physician assistant that are delegated by the supervising physician. Medical services rendered by physician assistants may include, but are not limited to, obtaining patient histories and performing physical examinations; ordering and/or performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures; formulating a diagnosis; developing and implementing a treatment plan; monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions; offering counseling and education to meet patient needs; making appropriate referrals. Physician Assistants, in an emergency, shall be authorized to treat any medical disease and/or perform any medical and surgical procedures at the hospital for affiliates. An emergency, for these purposed, is defined as a situation in which any delay in administering treatment would result in serious harm to the patient or an immediate threat to life of the patient and that a qualified practitioner is not immediately available. The activities listed above may be performed in any setting authorized by the supervising physician, including but not limited to, clinics, hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, patient homes, nursing homes and other institution settings. In addition to the core skills listed here, PAs, will request validation to perform department specific skills.

Requirements

  • BS Required
  • 1 year experience Required
  • Excellent organizational skills required.
  • Ability to deal with a busy, active environment.
  • Knowledge of computers and the ability to be able to learn varous computer programs utilized in our department
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and Methadone and dosing regiments.
  • Physician Assistant Required
  • Registered Physician Assistant, DEA license, NPI, and NCC PA Required

Responsibilities

  • Completes medical and mental health assessment and history on new patients as well as the admission physical
  • Assesses and adjusts patient doses as needed
  • Performs annual physicals and reviews annual lab results
  • Assesses, administers and documents the flu and pneumonia vaccines
  • Participates in all staff meetings, request meetings, treatment meetings and fair hearings
  • Documents all patient medication management and physicals that are completed
  • Adheres to and demonstrates a knowledge of hospital policy and procedures
  • Knowledge of the OASAS and Joint Commission standards
