About The Position

Assists with direct patient care as directed by RPT/RPTA. Performs treatment procedures (gait, exercises, ROM) as appropriate. Assists with patient transfers and bed mobility. Assists therapist with getting necessary equipment needed during patient treatment. This position is ECB status – requires a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department; limited benefit offerings. This position has been identified as a safety sensitive position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 0 - 6 months related experience.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with direct patient care as directed by RPT/RPTA.
  • Performs treatment procedures (gait, exercises, ROM) as appropriate.
  • Assists with patient transfers and bed mobility.
  • Applies and knows contraindications for mobility use.
  • Assists therapist with getting necessary equipment needed during patient treatment.
  • Provides procedural assistance by: verifying with nurse for contraindications before patient treatment.
  • Calls around to assist others when own (Attendant and Physical Therapist) patient load done or P.T. no longer needs his/her assistance.
  • Performs departmental assistance by: Assisting with W/P patient transporting and stocking of laundry.
  • Performs stocking of crutches and/or filling oxygen tanks on one-month rotation basis.
  • Willingly assists and/or changes partners as needed during rotations.
  • Prepares treatment area or patient environment by: When appropriate, shows patient to booth, provides gown, and helps maintain patient's modesty.
  • Arranges IV lines, Foley, and patient's chair in preparation for patient treatment.
  • When appropriate, fills patient's ice bag, replaces patient's call light and table, and puts patient's rails up.
  • Maintains education level by: Attends 95% of scheduled monthly in- services and departmental meetings.
  • Through departmental in-services or one-on-one education, learns new treatment techniques or the use of modalities.
  • Serves as example for new attendants and provides information on the 'why' behind specific techniques and modalities.
  • Cleans and assists in the maintenance of outpatient equipment.
  • Assures the department/equipment is clean, prior to and following treatments.
