About The Position

Under general direction of the Department Office Coordinator and the Department Director, provides care to outpatients in the Department of Outpatient Physical Therapy. Under indirect supervision assists in office billing and reception and general clerical duties; under direct supervision of therapists assists in patient care procedures. Maintains supplies, exam rooms and equipment. This position is considered vital in patient flow from waiting room through evaluation and treatment to discharge. Education High School diploma, GED, or equivalent. Experience 1 year in clinical area or fitness center requiring patient/client service skills and / or medical office setting. Advanced education may substitute for experience. Skills Skill in various clerical support functions: filing, inventory, data entry, email and basic correspondence, phone Basic skill in computers and personal productivity applications. Basic skill in using a variety of office software applications, such as Microsoft Office, Ability to independently facilitate patient care flow by prepping treatment and shower rooms, interpreting therapist or physician schedule; assisting with, patient care activities . Ability to clean and maintain exercise and office equipment as well as inventory and stock supplies Skills in self time management and organizing workspace Effective oral and written communication Basic knowledge of medical terminology and / or anatomy or ability to learn the same Ability to use a point and shoot camera and print Licensures, Certifications Heart Saver (CPR Certification). Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk seventy percent (70%) of the time when assisting in patient care activities or clinical procedures or office duties. Ability to use proper body mechanics to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. Working Conditions Normal clinic, patient care and office work environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperatures Conditions of Employment Current CPR certification Principal Duties and Responsibilities ·Facilitates patient flow ·Interprets therapist, MD or nurse schedules; assist in pacing patient activity ·Assigns patient rooms ·Escorts patients to and from waiting room Turnover patient rooms adhering to infection control policies Aiding therapist, therapist assistant, nurse or physician (within guidelines of Md.OT or PT Board of Practice) Encouraging, guiding and helping recurring therapy patients to prepare for therapy session by removal of appliances or compression and with personal hygiene and rolling compression bandages Reinforcing patient practice of therapist assigned activity, patient transfers, guarding Falls Risk patients when walking, spotting patients on gym equipment, orienting patient to use the shower safely Being observant and reporting any apparent issues or referring patient to therapist to answer questions patient verbalizes about condition Taking patient weight and vitals (if credentialed) ·Preps for new therapy or physician evaluation appointment by assuring patient chart has forms in keeping with planned patient care, has retrieved previous medical records ·Prepping room and setting up equipment. ·Photographs patient limbs or area to be treated in standard poses, prints photos and labels for chart, ·Remains with therapist during measurements, handles equipment and /or enters measurements/data and prints data report. Enters Part A Clinic and therapy bills daily. Prepares Part B log, Physician bill and sends to Physician’s Practice (GBMA) ·Backup and assistance with all basic reception and clerical duties ·Faxing; copying; printing ·Chart audits ·Assists taking calls from patients, physicians, vendors, GBMC staff; monitoring voicemail; ·Gathering all required documents for ordering appliances and compression garments for patients; follow-up with vendors as needed ·Filing Keeps track of clinic and office inventory and supplies and linen ; reordering when necessary and within budget constraints Cleans, maintains exercise and office equipment. Strip, clean, make beds. Prepares instruments to bring to Central Sterilization Cleans shower between patient use. Schedules laboratory tests, radiology and consultant patient appointments for patients when necessary. Patient escort or out of department errands as needed.
