About The Position

This role involves providing essential support to licensed therapists in patient care, maintaining a sanitary and organized treatment environment, and assisting with administrative and clerical duties. The Physical Therapy Tech will work closely with patients, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes and efficient departmental operations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • BLS Certification.
  • Good computer and phone skills.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology is helpful.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is preferred.
  • Satisfactory completion of Tech Departmental Orientation Program.
  • Successful completion of annual competencies, including knowledge of patient precautions and therapeutic procedures.
  • Knowledge of mechanical assist equipment (Hoyer lift, steady aide, Rise and Go walker, etc.).
  • Knowledge of safe patient handling, transfers, and mobility in various rehabilitation settings.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

  • Assist patients in ambulation, transfers, mobility activities, ADLs, exercise programs, and leisure activities as directed by licensed therapists.
  • Observe patient participation in treatment and communicate responses, progress, and condition to primary therapists.
  • Apply heat/cold modalities under the supervision of therapists.
  • Provide positive support and education to patients and families.
  • Ensure treatment areas are sanitary and tidy, including cleaning of equipment and surfaces.
  • Maintain equipment check logs and return therapy items to storage.
  • Monitor inventory, order, and maintain supplies according to need and infection control guidelines.
  • Order linens and maintain the linen closet.
  • Provide accurate information about the department's programs and services to referral sources and patients.
  • Answer and route calls, take messages, and respond to voicemails promptly.
  • Contact therapists for urgent orders.
  • Communicate effectively with unit coordinators, other hospital departments, and outside vendors.
  • Update schedule grids and patient information in shared documents and systems (e.g., Excel, Meditech).
  • Retrieve new orders and update relevant spreadsheets.
  • Update and reset productivity grids.
  • Retrieve patient information, diagnoses, and order history using Meditech.
  • Ensure rehabilitation unit rooms are equipped with necessary mobility aids (wheelchair, walker, binder).
  • Post therapy schedules on whiteboards in patient rooms.
  • Track and input missed therapy units.
  • Complete general clerical duties such as faxing and copying.
  • Maintain inventory of therapy supplies.
