Requirements

  • Associates Degree.
  • Graduate from a college or university accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
  • Possess a minimum of one (1) year experience as an outpatient orthopedic physical therapy assistant within the preceding three (3) years OR have graduated from a Physical Therapy Assistant program within the preceding year.
  • Provide two letters of recommendation written within the preceding two (2) years attesting to the HCWs clinical skills. At least one (1) letter must be from a physical therapist who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW’s clinical skills in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physical therapist, physician or nurse who has personal knowledge of the HCW’s patient care skills in a similar clinical environment. Reference letters shall attest to the HCWs communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a physical therapy assistant or possess current certification as a physical therapy assistant/technician as determined by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a full range of physical therapy assistant services, including the services given below, as directed by the supervising physical therapist.
  • Provide orientation, clinical direction and instruction to new physical therapy assistants and physical therapy aides.
  • Perform clerical duties, such as taking inventory, ordering supplies, answering telephone, taking messages, filling out forms, scheduling patients, and staffing the reception area. Maintain and care for department equipment and supplies and storage. Maintain department records and files in accordance with facility policies. Perform coding of patient encounters and workload.
  • Measure patient's range-of-joint motion, length and girth of body parts, and vital signs to determine effects of specific treatments or to assist physical therapist to compile data for patient evaluations.
  • Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation personnel will also perform clerical and scheduling duties in support of patient care and clinic operations and other related administrative duties as assigned.
