POSITION: Physical Therapist Assistant EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Casual (as-needed basis) WORK SCHEDULE: Day DEPARTMENT: Home Care JOB SUMMARY Responsible for administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff physical therapist. Administers treatments and physical agents as directed by the staff physical therapist, after the physical therapist has evaluated the patient. The PTA assists with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while maintains performance improvement activities within the department and participates in CQI activities. Participates in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs.

Requirements

  • AA degree from a school or college approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant in the State of MN.
  • Current BLS (CPR) certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow and adhere to Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital policies, vision, mission and values.
  • Maintains reliable and consistent attendance.

Responsibilities

  • Administering physical therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff physical therapist.
  • Administering treatments and physical agents as directed by the staff physical therapist, after the physical therapist has evaluated the patient.
  • Assisting with restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability.
  • Assisting patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning.
  • Maintaining performance improvement activities within the department and participating in CQI activities.
  • Participating in all infection control, departmental equipment training, organizational safety and fire safety programs.
  • Providing treatment as directed by the staff physical therapist.
  • Adhering to standards of physical medicine practice.
  • Observing and evaluating treatment effect, discussing observations with staff physical therapist.
  • Performing components of an appropriate assessment on all patients as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy. This includes neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients and the general patient population.
  • Assisting with formulation of a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and assessing effectiveness of learning, family is included in teaching as appropriate, staff physical therapist a is apprised of conclusions.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of physical therapy modalities.
  • Treating patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Identifying and addressing psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Managing and operating equipment safely and correctly.
  • Maintaining department cleanliness and safety.
  • Interacting professionally with patient/family and involving patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Communicating appropriately and clearly to physicians, facility staff and members of the department.
  • Coordinating and assisting with directing patient care to ensure patient's needs are met and facility policy is followed.
  • Maintaining records pertinent to personnel and operation of the department.
  • Demonstrating an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Maintaining a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Consulting other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
  • Ensuring documentation meets current standards and policies.
