The Physical Therapy Assistant provides routine treatment under a licensed Physical Therapist’s plan of care and supervision. The role provides direct patient care after a licensed Physical Therapist has evaluated the patient, documents patient progress in daily progress notes or summaries to physicians, and communicates changes in patient status to the therapist. The assistant maintains patient records, participates in staff and committee projects, meets productivity levels, and may educate or train others within the discipline. The role also adapts communication and care to the needs of specific patient populations and follows applicable laws, accreditation standards, regulatory requirements, and the employer’s Compliance & Privacy Program and Standards of Conduct. This position works directly with patients in a healthcare setting and requires travel throughout and between facilities. Routine duties involve exposure to blood, body fluids, tissue, communicable diseases, and potentially hazardous medications or waste. Physical demands include frequently exerting 10 to 20 pounds of force and occasionally up to 100 pounds, as well as stooping, bending, reaching, squatting, crawling, grabbing, and manual dexterity. Mechanical lifting devices or team lifts should be used.
