Under the direction and supervision of physical therapists, physical therapist assistants treat patients through exercise, massage, gait and balance training, and other therapeutic interventions. They record patients' progress and report the results of each treatment to the physical therapist. This role involves implementing components of patient care, obtaining data related to the treatments provided, and collaborating with the PT to modify care as necessary. The assistant will help patients stretch and exercise certain muscle groups, work directly with the Physical Therapist to assist patients, keep the physical therapy area clean and organized, and teach patients techniques like balance training.
