About The Position

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) evaluates, plans, and provides therapeutic intervention for individuals with traumatic brain injury, focusing on physical deficits. This role involves implementing the philosophical principles of Minds Matter LLC, assisting individuals in identifying needs and developing compensation techniques for brain injury consequences. The PTA contributes to assessment and reassessment processes under the supervision of a Physical Therapist (RPT), and under their direction, plans and conducts programs to improve or restore necessary functions and minimize debilitation. Key responsibilities include integrating employment, educational, and independent living goals into therapy, working closely with consumers and case managers, and providing services strictly according to the individual consumer’s plan of care and physician orders. The role also involves educating families about brain injury consequences, maintaining documentation, attending trainings, and promoting public relations for the agency and community.

Requirements

  • High School or GED required
  • One year or more of related experience preferred
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office specifically Excel
  • Excellent written, verbal communication skills
  • Must be organized, possess problem-solving skills, and be able to multitask
  • Must have advanced analytical skills
  • High degree of sensitivity toward all people
  • Ability to effectively plan, coordinate, and assist with intake process and systems
  • Attention to detail

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for learning and implementing all aspects of Minds Matter LLC philosophical principles.
  • Assists individuals to identify their needs and develop appropriate compensation techniques to accommodate the consequences of their brain injury.
  • Contributes to the assessment and reassessment process under the supervision of the Physical Therapist (RPT).
  • Under the direction of the Physical Therapist, plans, directs, and conducts programs to develop, improve, and/or restore the performance of necessary functions to minimize debilitation.
  • Maintains treatment records, progress notes, or other written plans as required.
  • Integrates employment, educational, and independent living goals into therapy.
  • Works closely with the consumer and case manager to ascertain goals.
  • Provides services only as designated on each individual consumer’s plan of care and/or physician orders.
  • Works directly with consumers to improve skills in all aspects of their life goals.
  • Maintains and turns in all documentation at assigned times.
  • Educates families about the consequences of brain injury and communicates with them about goals and progress as needed.
  • Attends all trainings and workshops to maintain ability to provide the most up-to-date, effective, and evidence-based practice.
  • Provides effective documentation that is legible, timely, and appropriate to services provided to consumers.
  • Is aware of departmental goals and objectives and takes an active role in helping the department to attain goals.
  • Schedules supervision meetings with the therapy coordinator or physical therapist bi-monthly or as needed to review individual cases and departmental objectives/needs.
  • Makes initial contact within 48 hours of receipt of referral to schedule an evaluation, which must be completed within 7 days of receipt of referral.
  • Provides case managers with quarterly summaries related to goal attainment.
  • Meets all policy and procedure requirements of Minds Matter LLC on time, including completion of timesheets, mileage, quarterly summaries, and other reports.
  • Establishes and maintains a professional rapport with all consumers, co-workers, referral agents, and representatives of other community agencies and services, including attendance at planning meetings, etc.
  • Maintains confidentiality of consumers' medical records or services according to HIPAA regulations.
  • Promotes public relations throughout the agency and community for the program.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to serve on agency and interagency task groups as requested.
  • Provides care and maintenance for Minds Matter LLC issued computer if assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
