About The Position

Under the direction of a NYS-licensed Physical Therapist, the Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) provides and documents physician-ordered occupational therapy services. The PTA provides superior customer service by modeling the Unity Brand Promise and Core Values.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
  • Reads, writes, and speaks English
  • Must demonstrate computer proficiency.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Current NYS PT Assistant licensure required

Responsibilities

  • Completes and documents (within agency standards) related to patient care, including visit notes, renewal orders, and verbal orders.
  • Includes progress or lack of goal achievement in all charting.
  • Implements treatment programs individualized to meet patient needs and discharge plans: issues and provides instruction in the use of adaptive equipment.
  • Confers with therapist directly, physician, and/or interdisciplinary team members regarding patient response to therapy and any concerns.
  • Provides PT gait and ambulation training.
  • Instructs in the use of assistive devices.
  • Provides instruction in safe transfer using appropriate body mechanics and equipment.
  • Participates in discharge planning and provides timely and adequate patient and family teaching to facilitate the discharge plan.
  • Coordinates patient schedule with team members and readily and effectively adjusts the schedule to meet changes in census and patient needs.
