About The Position

The Physical Therapy Assistant - Licensed is responsible for evaluating and providing treatment to patients, documenting and completing daily charge tickets. This role involves assisting in performing evaluation procedures and planning treatment programs, ruling out contra-indications to treatment, and recommending necessary changes. The assistant will administer various therapeutic techniques, including electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, traction, and massage, as well as therapeutic exercises to improve patient's physical condition. They will also instruct patients on home-based physical therapy procedures and the use of assistive devices, monitor treatment effects, and document progress. Communication with the Physical Therapist and/or referring physician is crucial, as is maintaining a professional demeanor and a clean work environment. The role also includes administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining records, and completing charge tickets.

Requirements

  • Associate Degree in Science as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
  • Licensed by the State of Illinois (PTA).
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in performing evaluation procedures and planning treatment programs.
  • Rule out contra-indications to treatment and recommend necessary changes.
  • Perform electrotherapy, hydrotherapy, traction and massage techniques following established procedures and within the limits set by the patient's condition and tolerance.
  • Administer therapeutic exercises to improve posture, strength, range of motion, coordination, endurance.
  • Provide fitting and application or recommended orthotic devices.
  • Instruct patients in the use of assistive devices and physical therapy procedures to be continued at home.
  • Monitor the effects of treatment and modify techniques to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Document progress reports for patient's records.
  • Verbally report progress or changes in the patient's condition to the Physical Therapist and/or referring physician as appropriate.
  • Maintain professional mannerism.
  • Schedule appointments and maintain daily attendance records.
  • Accurately complete charge tickets and maintain record of treatments given.
  • Maintain clean, neat, orderly work environment.
  • Attempt to provide for patient comfort and modesty.
  • Communicate tactfully in person or by telephone.
  • Economically utilizes supplies.
  • Help maintain equipment and notify the Director of problems.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of emergency procedure code.
  • File incident reports for any event in which the individual or facility might be subject to liability.
  • Notify Physical Therapist or the Director of any situation, which warrants consideration beyond the Physical Therapy Assistant's duties and responsibilities.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
