About The Position

Under the supervision of the Clinical Supervisor and the Director of Physical Therapy, the Physical Therapist (PT) Per Diem provides independent and professional pediatric physical therapy services. The PT is responsible for evaluating and treating neuro-muscular, functional, and developmental skills to help patients achieve maximum physical functioning in their daily life tasks. This role is integral to the patient's overall medical care and includes education and training for the patient, family, and related disciplines.

Requirements

  • Pediatric experience: new graduates will be considered.
  • Baccalaureate Degree, Master of Science Degree, or Doctor of Physical Therapy from an accredited Physical Therapy Program.
  • Current New York State Physical Therapy License or eligibility for licensure.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and balance patients of varying weights.
  • Must be able to visually and auditorily monitor patients' status.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in computer use is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough pediatric physical therapy evaluations, including assessments of mobility, postural control, muscle strength, muscle tone, sensory function, lower extremity splinting, gross motor skills, and gait analysis.
  • Develop realistic treatment goals, methods, and techniques based on PT theory to establish appropriate treatment programs.
  • Monitor therapist-patient relationships, procedures, and progress to ensure high standards of treatment.
  • Maintain a caseload of 45 units and productivity of 9-10 units per day, with flexibility to adjust based on hospital and department needs.
  • Actively participate in clinical supervision for case management, including documentation review, co-treatment, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Participate in the training and supervision of therapy aides, senior PT students, and volunteers.
  • Demonstrate competency in using the Meditech Electronic Medical Record system, ensuring timely and appropriate documentation.
  • Provide physical therapy assessment and treatment for community-based school children.
