About The Position

The PRN Physical Therapist provides as-needed physical therapy evaluation and treatment services to patients in a hospital setting. Delivers patient-centered therapy services as ordered by the provider, including evaluation, therapeutic interventions, patient education, and use of modality. Services are provided in accordance with established clinical protocols, professional standards, and departmental guidelines while supporting the mission, vision, and values of MSRH. The PRN Physical Therapist supports inpatient care needs based on variable scheduling, patient volume, and operational demand. Work is performed under the supervision of departmental leadership. The PRN role requires flexibility to work variable shifts, including on-call coverage and call-back as needed.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of physical therapy principles, evaluation techniques, and treatment interventions applicable to acute and inpatient care.
  • Ability to deliver patient-centered care in accordance with provider orders, clinical protocols, and professional standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary care teams.
  • Ability to assess patient functional status and respond appropriately to changes in condition using sound clinical judgment.
  • Ability to adapt to variable schedules, fluctuating caseloads, and changing patient care demands typical of PRN assignments.
  • Ability to provide clear and effective patient education while considering physical, environmental, and cultural factors.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and comply with regulatory, safety, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting the mission, vision, and values of MSRH through professional conduct and quality patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Review physical therapy consult orders and identify precautions to ensure safe and appropriate evaluation and treatment.
  • Perform physical therapy evaluations to assess muscle strength, joint mobility, balance, and functional abilities.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions and treatments in accordance with established plans of care and physician orders.
  • Modify treatment interventions based on patient response, medical status, and clinical presentation.
  • Monitor patient tolerance and response during therapy sessions and report changes in condition as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team to support patient care.
  • Educate patients and families on therapy goals, exercises, and functional mobility as appropriate.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with professional and organizational standards.
  • Support continuity of care by identifying follow-up needs or therapy recommendations as appropriate.
  • Prioritize patient assignments based on clinical needs and departmental workflow.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned based on operational needs.
