About The Position

The Physical Therapist evaluates and treats patients with movement, mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and functional limitations to support recovery and maximize independence. This position develops and implements individualized treatment plans based on each patient’s physical capacity, psychosocial needs, goals, cognitive abilities, and age. The Physical Therapist monitors patient progress, provides education regarding safe mobility and equipment use, and collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to ensure safe, effective, and patient-centered rehabilitative care.

Requirements

  • Current New York State license and registration as a Physical Therapist required
  • Graduation from a physical therapy education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education or otherwise recognized as meeting New York State licensure requirements required
  • Clinical education or experience evaluating and treating patients with mobility, strength, balance, coordination, and functional impairments required
  • Knowledge of physical therapy evaluation, assessment, treatment-planning, and rehabilitation practices.
  • Ability to perform muscle, nerve, joint, balance, mobility, gait, and functional-ability testing
  • Knowledge of therapeutic exercise, transfer training, gait training, body mechanics, and mobility-device instruction
  • Ability to safely use therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation equipment, orthotic devices, and prosthetic devices
  • Ability to evaluate patient response, identify changes in condition, and modify treatment plans appropriately

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and assesses patients’ physical and functional status and accurately performs diagnostic and prognostic muscle, nerve, joint, mobility, and functional-ability tests.
  • Develops and administers individualized physical therapy treatment plans safely and effectively, considering each patient’s diagnosis, physical capacity, psychosocial needs, goals, cognitive abilities, and age.
  • Directs patients in therapeutic exercise, transfer training, balance and coordination activities, gait training, and ambulation programs to improve mobility, strength, safety, and functional independence.
  • Instructs patients and caregivers in the safe use and care of wheelchairs, braces, canes, crutches, prosthetic devices, orthotic devices, and other adaptive or mobility equipment, as applicable.
  • Provides education regarding therapeutic exercises, home programs, proper body mechanics, positioning, and safe lifting techniques, adapting instruction to meet patients’ language, communication, cognitive, and learning needs.
  • Monitors and documents patient progress, reevaluates patients within established timeframes, and modifies treatment plans based on clinical findings, patient response, and progress toward established goals.
  • Uses therapeutic modalities, exercise equipment, and rehabilitation devices properly and safely and consistently follows infection-prevention practices, standard precautions, and departmental safety procedures.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, performance-improvement and quality-improvement activities, and other assigned responsibilities that support patient care and departmental operations.
  • Complies with organizational, regulatory, insurance, confidentiality, infection-prevention, and patient-safety requirements; and participates in continuing education to maintain current clinical knowledge
  • Collaborates with physicians, nursing, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate treatment and contribute to discharge planning by assessing functional readiness for discharge, recommending equipment and home modifications, and communicating anticipated discharge needs to support safe transitions and continuity of care.

Benefits

  • Pay Range: $59.86 - $65.79 per hour, depending on years of experience
