About The Position

The inpatient therapy team plays a critical role in supporting patient care by providing therapy evaluations and treatments to a wide variety of patients at the Glens Falls Hospital and making recommendations for their disposition, be it home or to a rehabilitation facility. The primary focus of this position is to identify, correct, alleviate or prevent acute or prolonged movement dysfunction brought on by illness, injury or birth defect. This is accomplished by performance of tests and measurements, establishment of treatment goals and therapeutic intervention.

Requirements

  • Entry level Masters or a Bachelors degree in Physical Therapy from a New York State Department of Education accredited program or American Physical Therapy Association accredited program.
  • Successful completion of state licensure examination.
  • New York State license in Physical Therapy.
  • Valid NYS Drivers License for travel between sites for the provision of care and meetings.
  • CPR certification.
  • Ability to operate computer, tape recorder and A/V devices.
  • Demonstrate the ability to read, analyze and interpret technical clinical information.
  • Ability to tactfully communicate evaluation results.
  • Ability to apply and interpret complex mathematical concepts such as validity, reliability, variance, etc.
  • Ability to problem solve independently.
  • Ability to instruct/teach patient/family of all ages, skill level and medical diagnosis.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct physical therapy treatments including, but not limited to, modalities, exercise, special techniques and measurements.
  • Monitor and modify the treatment plan and goals as indicated by treatment response, monitor equipment use and safety, record patient charges.
  • Evaluate patients referred by physicians for disorders and injuries (including but not limited to orthopedic, neurological and chronic pain) of all ages according to the clinical guidelines and departmental policies using procedures which are appropriate for the patient’s age, skill level and medical diagnosis.
  • Formulate treatment diagnosis, prognosis, treatment plan and functional goals in collaboration with the patient, family and other professionals.
  • Maintain appropriate, timely documentation including evaluation reports, daily progress notes, progress updates and discharge summaries.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnosis, abilities, goals and outcomes.
  • Provide direct supervision of students, aides and volunteers as delegated.
  • Provide cross training in-services/education to rehabilitation of special techniques.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rehabilitation program development and implementation.
  • Participate in community service activities, departmental decisions regarding program development, case management, continuing education, material and equipment procurement.
