About The Position

The scope of practice for an individual physical therapist is influenced by professional, jurisdictional, and personal factors. This scope evolves over a career based on societal needs, professional development, jurisdictional laws, advancements in knowledge and technology, and the evolving health delivery system. The professional scope is grounded in sciences, supported by education, evidence-based, and linked to practice frameworks. It involves patient and client management, including diagnosis and prognosis, to optimize physical function, movement, performance, health, quality of life, and well-being across the lifespan. It also includes contributions to public health. The jurisdictional scope is defined by the practice act and its rules. The personal scope includes activities the individual therapist is educated, trained, and competent to perform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in physical therapy is required.
  • Licensed as a Physical Therapist by the Virginia Department of Health Professions is required.
  • BLS certification is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or doctorate in physical therapy is preferred.
  • One year of experience in physical therapy is preferred.
