The Physical Therapist (PT) will interpret physician referrals and complete evaluations of musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary systems. They will establish a plan of care and implement individual treatments based on evaluation results and functional goals, utilizing appropriate techniques. The PT will monitor and evaluate outcomes, adjusting treatment plans based on patient response, and provide status updates to physicians and other team members. They will identify and address factors affecting patient comfort, plan and complete patient discharge including home programs, patient/family teaching, and ordering equipment. Communication and collaboration with stakeholders are essential for optimal patient care. The PT will complete all required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards, including evaluations, progress notes, team conference reports, and discharge summaries. They will record patient care and progress, complete daily statistics, billing, and scheduling, and apply insurance guidelines regarding authorization and visits. The role requires maintaining productivity standards, understanding and adhering to billing and documentation policies, and ensuring the work area is clean and orderly. The PT will perform manual techniques, patient positioning, transferring, and transporting, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique. They will demonstrate skill in the use of modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices, with knowledge of indications and contraindications. Patient safety is promoted through participation in safety initiatives and adherence to safety and infection control measures. The PT will participate in performance improvement activities, manage their caseload, and assist with coverage as needed. Professional growth is pursued through continuing education, department in-services, and professional literature. They may orient new staff, participate in co-worker evaluations, and supervise physical therapy assistants, extenders, and students, delegating patients and providing direction and supervision while maintaining responsibility for the plan of care.
