About The Position

Trinity Health Livonia Hospital is seeking a full-time Acute Care Physical Therapist to implement the evaluation and treatment of medically disabled patients. This role involves providing education to patients and families, consulting with healthcare personnel, and participating in various operational aspects of the physical therapy department. The position is based in Livonia, MI, with a schedule of 32 hours per week. The rate starts at $41.75+ per hour, with potential for review based on prior experience.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited school of Physical Therapy.
  • Licensure as a Physical Therapist.
  • Current license as a Physical Therapist in the State of Michigan.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and physical therapy treatment and modalities.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other team members.
  • Analytical skills necessary to evaluate patients, establish goals, formulate treatment plans, and document progress.
  • Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for up to 80% of work time.
  • Ability to react quickly in sudden unplanned situations.
  • Ability to walk and stand for up to 50% of work time.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull weights with an effective force of approximately 40-60 pounds for up to 20% of work time.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients, patients' families, and other health center personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years of experience in an inpatient acute care hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates patients' physical and functional status, including muscular strength, motor function, reflex, and ambulation skills.
  • Administers detailed sensory tests, manual muscle tests, range of motion exams, and other evaluation techniques.
  • Establishes short and long-term therapy goals and formulates treatment plans.
  • Treats patients using therapeutic exercise, gait training, functional training, and application of modalities.
  • Delegates treatment procedures to appropriate personnel.
  • Observes patients' reactions to treatment and evaluates progress.
  • Consults with physicians and other health-care team members to adjust treatment programs.
  • Determines appropriate assistive devices (wheelchairs, canes, crutches, prosthetic/orthotic devices) and instructs patients on their use.
  • Documents patient progress and prepares reports for physicians and other team members.
  • Participates in patient education, quality review, clinical education, program planning, and supervision of student interns.
  • Maintains records and logs of treatments and prepares charge slips for billing.
  • Discusses evaluations, goals, and treatments with patients and families.
  • Instructs patients and families in continued exercise or therapy programs and the use of assistive devices.
  • Participates in discharge planning to ensure appropriate home rehabilitation.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in physical therapy.
  • Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships with colleagues.
  • Approaches conflict constructively and participates in problem resolution.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient, physician, employee, and visitor information.
  • Assumes responsibility for performing job duties in the safest possible manner.
  • Provides quality patient care considering age-specific, developmental, and cultural needs.
  • Demonstrates unit/area competencies.
  • Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Trinity Health Michigan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Physical Therapy Supervisor or Manager.
