The Physical Therapist (PT) will interpret physician referrals and complete evaluations of musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary systems. They will establish and implement individualized treatment plans based on evaluation results and functional goals, utilizing appropriate techniques. The PT will monitor and evaluate patient outcomes, adjust treatment plans based on patient response, and provide status updates to physicians and other healthcare professionals. Responsibilities include identifying factors affecting patient comfort, planning and completing patient discharge (including home programs, patient/family teaching, community service referrals, transition planning, and equipment ordering), and communicating/collaborating with stakeholders for optimal patient care. The role also involves completing all required documentation according to department policy and accreditation standards, recording patient care and progress, completing daily statistics, billing, and scheduling, and applying insurance guidelines regarding authorization and visit numbers. The PT must maintain productivity standards, adhere to billing and documentation policies, and ensure the cleanliness and orderliness of the work area. They will perform manual techniques, patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique. Skill in the use of modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices is essential, along with knowledge of indications and contraindications. The PT will promote patient safety by participating in safety initiatives and adhering to safety and infection control measures. They will manage their caseload, inform leadership of coverage needs, and assist with coverage as needed. Professional growth is encouraged through continuing education, department in-services, and professional literature. The PT may also orient new staff, participate in co-worker evaluations, and supervise physical therapy assistants, extenders, and students, delegating tasks and providing direction and supervision while maintaining responsibility for the patient's plan of care.
