The Physical Therapist will interpret physician referrals and complete musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary, and/or integumentary evaluations using appropriate methods. They will establish a plan of care and implement individual treatment based on evaluation results and functional goals, utilizing appropriate techniques. The role involves monitoring and evaluating outcomes, adjusting treatment plans based on patient response, and providing status updates to physicians and other teammates. The Physical Therapist will identify and address factors affecting patient's physical and psychosocial comfort, plan for patient discharge including providing written home programs, patient/family teaching, referral for community services, transition planning, and ordering equipment. Communication and collaboration with appropriate stakeholders are essential for optimum patient care. The role requires completing all required documentation following department policy and accreditation standards, including patient evaluations, progress notes, team conference reports, and discharge summaries. Daily statistics, billing, and scheduling must be completed, along with applying insurance guidelines regarding authorization and number of visits. The Physical Therapist is responsible for maintaining productivity standards and understanding/adhering to all billing and documentation policies, procedures, and timelines. They will also be responsible for maintaining a neat and orderly treatment area, including cleaning up after patient treatment and putting away equipment. The role involves performing various manual techniques, patient positioning, transferring, and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling with proper technique. Skill in the use of modalities, exercise equipment, and other devices is required, along with knowledge of indications and contraindications. Promoting patient safety through participation in safety initiatives and adherence to safety and infection control measures is crucial. The Physical Therapist will participate in performance improvement activities, manage their assigned caseload, and assist with coverage based on department and regional needs. Professional growth is encouraged through continuing education, department in-services, and professional literature. The role may involve orienting new staff, participating in the evaluation process of co-workers, and potentially supervising physical therapy assistants, extenders (rehab aides/techs), and students.
