This role serves as a clinical resource for rehabilitation staff in a focused area of clinical expertise, planning and conducting treatment programs for patients. The specialist assists management in the planning, development, organization, and supervision of the specified clinical specialty area. Responsibilities include evaluating new patients, setting objective measurable treatment goals for functional outcome, establishing appropriate treatment programs, and documenting the same. The specialist administers diagnostic tests to determine the extent of patient impairment and prognosis, carries out appropriate treatment modalities, and re-evaluates patients as needed, modifying the treatment plan based on progress. They provide objective, analytic documentation of patient care, patient/family education, and communication with other caregivers. Effective communication with medical/allied health personnel regarding patient progress, needs, and discharge planning is essential. The role involves providing instruction in therapeutic procedures for patients and families, assisting in training new personnel, and providing guidance to Physical Therapist Assistants, Aides, and students. Maintaining departmental policies, procedures, quality assessment programs, and safety standards is required. The specialist is expected to attend meetings, enhance professional growth through education and literature, and maintain daily statistical records. The position also involves performing other work-related duties as assigned and consistently providing service excellence.
