About The Position

Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) is seeking a Physical Therapist specializing in neonatal care to join the Pediatric Rehabilitation Services department at Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt. This role is within a Level IV NICU, focusing on delivering evidence-based, family-centered therapy. The Neonatal Physical Therapist will provide comprehensive, developmentally supportive care to medically complex neonates and their families, embedded within a specialized interdisciplinary NICU team. The position supports neurodevelopmental outcomes from birth through transition to home and early intervention. Requirements

  • LIC-Physical Therapy License - Tennessee
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • 1 year of clinical experience in treatment implementation.
  • Bachelor's degree

  • Novice proficiency in Treatment Planning & Goal Setting, including developing and documenting patient-focused short and long-term goals that are functional and measurable, and identifying the need for and referral to other services.
  • Novice proficiency in Rehabilitation Therapist Patient Evaluation, including evaluating patients with physical deficits, obtaining pertinent information, administering and scoring standardized tests, performing functional assessments, and interpreting results.
  • Novice proficiency in Treatment Implementation, including providing treatment consistent with physician prescription and established plan of care, modifying treatment plans as needed, and supervising/directing certified athletic trainers, physical therapist/occupational therapist assistants, technicians, volunteers, and students.
  • Novice proficiency in Rehab Therapist Patient Documentation, including documentation in appropriate templates, utilizing approved abbreviations, and meeting institutional standards for quality and timeliness.
  • Novice proficiency in Physical/Occupational Therapist Patient Education, including communicating functional impact of assessment findings, treatment interventions, treatment planning diagnosis, and disease process, and considering the communication needs/level of understanding of the audience.
  • May supervise, educate and train students from professional programs of physical therapy, occupational therapy and athletic training.

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes comprehensive information from formal and informal assessment that is pertinent to the patient's care and management to determine a rehabilitation treatment diagnosis.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders in establishing the plan of care, coordinates and implements care delivery while anticipating patient care needs across the rehabilitation continuum.
  • Applies appropriate, evidence-based interventions to ensure effective outcomes and re-evaluates performance to assess patient's progress towards goals.
  • Employs strategies to promote successful return to home, community, and school/vocational environments.
