Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited PT school or equivalent.
  • Current license to practice physical therapy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (new graduates and out-of-state licensed PTs have 6 months to obtain).
  • Successful completion of National Physical Therapy Board Examination.
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to work cooperatively with all members of the healthcare team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.

Nice To Haves

  • New graduates and out of state licensed physical therapists are expected to obtain Massachusetts license within 6 months of hire date. Will need to work under the direct clinical supervision by a licensed physical therapist and have all notes co-signed until license has been obtained.

Responsibilities

  • Administers therapy evaluations and develops treatment plans for various patient populations (infants, children, adolescents, adults, geriatrics, frail elderly, inpatient, and outpatient).
  • Analyzes and interprets data, assesses current functional ability, researches specific problems, makes differential diagnoses, and consults with physicians regarding contradictions or alternative therapies.
  • Provides individualized treatment plans for movement dysfunction, including therapeutic exercises, ROM, neuromuscular education, strengthening, manual therapy, cardiopulmonary conditioning, wound care, physical agent modalities, and functional mobility training.
  • Evaluates the need for bracing, supportive, and positional equipment.
  • Educates patients, families, and other caregivers on therapy programs and goals.
  • Participates in patient care meetings, collaborates with team members, and assists with discharge planning.
  • Documents care provided in the medical record and completes therapy billing.
  • Completes departmental statistics and assists in maintaining an orderly, safe, and efficient working environment.
  • Assists with inventory and purchasing as assigned.
  • Delegates caseload to therapist assistants, overseeing quality of care and supervising performance.
  • Collaborates with team members to ensure patient coverage and equitable work distribution.
  • Participates in department quality improvement/assurance activities and program development initiatives.
  • Supervises students according to Practice Standards.
  • Complies with established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Attends meetings, conferences, and seminars as required or directed.
  • Demonstrates the use of Quality Improvement in daily operations.
  • Complies with all health and safety regulations and requirements.
  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining a professional environment.
  • Maintains regular, reliable, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
