About The Position

Special Education / Physical Therapist Location: Various Locations .8 FTE - Stretch Calendar Effective Date of Employment: Beginning of the 2026-27 school year Application Deadline: May 12, 2026 � 4:00 p.m. Application Procedures: Internal and External Candidates: Apply on-line at www.district196.org Job Summary: Evaluate students with motor impairments in addition to planning and implementing interventions so that these students may access the education curriculum in the least restrictive environment. Develop and demonstrate culturally responsive practices that lead to equitable outcomes for all students, particularly those groups of students that are over-represented in special education. Demonstrate current knowledge of instructional best practices and methodology for school based Physical Therapy (PT). Employ high expectations for students using a variety of instructional techniques. Collaborate with others to plan, teach and support students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment. Advocate for students with disabilities to ensure high levels of achievement. Promote and develop strong communication and collaboration with staff, parents and other professionals. Independently organize work as an itinerant staff member. Carry out responsibilities as defined by the master contract.

Requirements

  • Current license by the Minnesota Board of Physical Therapy.
  • Experience working in a school setting or with children ages birth through 21.
  • Experience working with and providing service to persons of diverse cultures, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Ability to work efficiently, effectively, and cooperatively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills
  • Ability to relate positively to students, staff, and community.
  • Ability to follow directions and procedures and facilitate collaborative teaming around students.
  • Knowledge of best practices in the field of physical therapy in educational settings.
  • Thorough understanding of the laws, rules and regulations of special education.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of weight.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to provide travel for self between locations.

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency working with a culturally, ethnically, racially and socioeconomically diverse school community is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct an evaluation and determine if a student shows a need for physical therapy services.
