About The Position

Citizens Health is looking for a Physical Therapist Assistant to work full-time in our Rehab department. Citizens Health is a community based, private, not-for-profit organization. It is comprised of: Citizens Medical Center - a 25 bed critical access hospital, Family Center for Health Care - an outpatient rural health clinic, Prairie Senior - a skilled nursing facility, Citizens Clubhouse - an onsite childcare center that cares for children 6 weeks to school age for our workforce, Citizens Medical Equipment - our durable medical equipment business, Palace Drug Store - our outpatient pharmacy. We strive to be progressive, dependable and knowledgeable, while providing compassionate, evidence-based care to the residents of northwest Kansas. The Certified Physical Therapist Assistant, under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, performs direct patient care activities using a variety of therapeutic procedures designed to restore loss of muscle strength, coordination and body alignment, to relieve pain and to improve movement and function. Physical Therapist Assistant will report to the Rehabilitation Department Manager.

Requirements

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Physical Therapy Assistant and eligible for licensure with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
  • Must have current license, certification or registration with the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts.
  • Current Physical Therapy Assistant licensure with the Kansas Board of Healing Arts.
  • Current C.P.R. certification or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing physical therapy services.
  • Ability to deal understandingly and tactfully in a professional manner with patients and their families.
  • Ability to maintain good working relationship with personnel in other departments.
  • Ability to provide direction in application of physical therapy process, quality improvement standard, organization and departmental goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physical therapy treatments to patients according to the plan of care developed by the Physical Therapist.
  • Assist the Physical Therapist when performing test, evaluations and complex treatment procedures.
  • Complete necessary documentation of patient conditions, reactions and responses to treatment in accordance with standards of practice.
  • Assist the Physical Therapist in communicating with physicians, departmental/hospital personnel and family members, as needed, regarding patient progress, problems and plans.
  • Assure the continued growth and improvement of the rehabilitation Services Department.
  • Attend and participate in required departmental meetings, and other meetings as instructed by the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
  • Attend continuing education opportunities appropriate to discipline and responsibilities.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
  • Complete all mandatory training/in-services and certification requirements.
  • Participate in the Continuous Quality Improvement process, as instructed by the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
  • Maintain equipment in proper working order and adapts equipment to meet the needs of the patient.
  • Act in compliance with regulatory, corporate and professional standards and guidelines.
  • Observe, record and report to the Physical Therapist the conditions, patient reactions and responses related to treatment.
  • Instruct patients and their families/caregivers in exercise programs and therapeutic procedures to be continued following the patient’s discharge as directed by the Physical Therapist.
  • Perform treatments as ordered in a safe and timely manner and in accordance with established practice guidelines.
