About The Position

The primary focus of the physical therapist assistant is to provide direct Physical Therapy to patients according to an evaluation and treatment plan established by a primary physical therapist. The PTA will provide therapy for patients of all ages consistent with clinical guidelines and protocols according to the PT treatment plan outlined by a Physical Therapist. The role involves monitoring and modifying the treatment plan and goals as indicated by treatment response, monitoring equipment use and safety, and recording patient charges. The PTA will consistently provide education to patients and families regarding their condition/treatment in conjunction with other team members, and effectively document and communicate treatment progress. The PTA will adjust goals and treatment after conferring with the Physical Therapist and supervise PTA students, aides, and volunteers as delegated. Responsibilities also include preparation and cleaning of treatment areas and maintaining equipment, participating in program planning and development for the department, interdisciplinary promotional activities, and orientation of new staff. Additionally, the PTA may train or mentor new and existing staff in daily operations or special techniques for patient care as needed.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher in physical therapy from a NYS Department of Education accredited program or APTA accredited program
  • NYS license as a Physical Therapy Assistant
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Current CPR certification
