The Staff Physical Therapist Assistant assists the Staff Physical Therapist with resident-related activities and direct resident care. This role involves treating residents as directed by a Physical Therapist, completing timely and accurate documentation, and maintaining a safe treatment environment. The PTA participates in resident care conferences and meetings, and for those in California, must adhere to specific state regulations. The position also includes assisting the nursing department with training Restorative Aides, communicating with the supervising physical therapist about resident progress, and providing in-services to other staff. Educating residents, families, and caregivers on treatment goals, home exercise programs, and safety techniques is a key responsibility. The PTA also recommends and facilitates the ordering of necessary durable medical equipment to promote resident independence. Maintaining confidentiality of resident and company information, reporting equipment issues, and contributing to quality assurance initiatives are also essential functions. The ability to relate positively with residents, families, staff, and colleagues is crucial.
