About The Position

The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) is primarily responsible for the delivery of Physical Therapy care to the patient population to which she/he is assigned and the recording of that care in the hospital medical record. The PTA acts as a consultant to various patient populations. The PTA must work under the direction and supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist according to the laws and practice regulations of the State of Virginia. The Physical Therapist Assistant provides instruction to OT/PT support staff, PT students, personnel of other disciplines within VCUHS, and patient and/or family members. The PTA may rotate through our various clinical service areas.

Requirements

  • Licensed (or licensure eligible) by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist Assistant
  • Current license by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Physical Therapist Assistant
  • Current CPR Certification if required by clinic or practice area
  • Minimum of 1 year of work experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant
  • Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant Program (Associates Degree)

Responsibilities

  • Patient implementation of plan of care
  • Discharge planning
  • Ordering equipment
  • Representing department at rounds and discharge conferences
  • Scheduling and charging patients
  • Employee may have supervisory responsibilities of Rehab Technicians, students, and volunteers
  • Employee is a member of a self-directed team and applies his knowledge and experience in daily clinic problem solving
  • The team will bring unresolved issues to departmental manager for assistance and guidance in their resolution
  • Employee is expected to share in weekend and holiday schedule expectations of the department or have a fluctuation of daily work hours from 8 AM to 7 PM based on patient population/clinic needs
