About The Position

The Physical Therapist Assistant works at Rehabilitation Hospital of Northern Indiana in Mishawaka, Indiana, an inpatient rehabilitation facility serving patients recovering from serious injuries and illnesses. The hospital provides intensive rehabilitation for conditions including stroke, brain or spinal cord injuries, and multiple trauma, using personalized programs to help patients restore mobility, communication, and daily living skills. The assistant joins a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation physicians, therapists, and nurses and provides care under the direction of a physical therapist.

Requirements

• Current and valid licensure as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
• Basic Life Support/CPR certification from an approved vendor.
• Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures.
• Understanding of treatment costs and financial support as they relate to quality and efficiency.
• Competency in providing care according to established standards.
• Ability to apply age-specific standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines when caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• General computer skills, including data entry, word processing, email, and record management.
• Leadership skills in delegating, organizing, and educating coworkers and staff.
• Effective organizational and time-management skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality.
• Ability to work closely and professionally with others.
• Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection-control standards.

Nice To Haves

• One year of direct patient care experience in a hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Under the direction of a physical therapist, participate in implementing treatment plans with patients.
• Perform components of physical therapy procedures and related tasks selected by a supervising physical therapist.
• Record patients’ responses to treatment and report the outcome of each treatment to the physical therapist.
• Integrate the hospital’s mission and “Guiding Principles” into daily practice.
