About The Position

This position involves providing physical therapy services in an educational setting, assisting the Physical Therapist with evaluations, managing equipment, preparing documentation, and collaborating with the educational team. The role requires a strong work ethic, the ability to work with children, and physical capability to perform job duties.

Requirements

  • Requires a degree in Physical Therapy Assisting.
  • Requires a current Physical Therapist Assistant licensure.
  • Requires a supervising licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Maintain infant, child and adult CPR/AED and first aid certification.
  • Comply with regulations of the State of Michigan for Physical Therapy.
  • Responsibility of employee to obtain and maintain all training(s), certificate(s), approval(s), etc. and provide documentation to the business office before expiration date of said document(s).
  • Required to have a physical presence at the designated job site each scheduled work day.
  • Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance, and the physical ability to do the job.
  • Ability to lift students using appropriate biomechanical techniques frequently throughout the course of seven (7) hour day; must be capable of easily lifting forty (40) pounds dead weight alone.
  • Work endurance ability to walk, bend, stand, and reach repeatedly during a seven (7) hour day.
  • Exhibit positive personal, professional and work ethic and high motivation through consistent demonstration of professional work behavior.
  • Computer competent for necessary documentation and correspondence.
  • Ability to work with children in a developmentally appropriate, respectful and positive manner.
  • Ability to work as part of the educational team.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate awareness of and/or competency regarding physical therapy in the educational setting.
  • Assist the Physical Therapist with evaluations.
  • Research for, and order new equipment as needed.
  • Prepare requests for physician prescriptions and Release of Information, maintaining up to date records throughout the year.
  • Attend meetings as appropriate, including IEP’s, MET’s, meeting mechanics, team meetings, etc.
  • Assist with in-services for the staff on topics related to physical therapy in the school environment.
  • Plan the daily physical therapy sessions and maintain an appropriate schedule, as outlined by the students IEP’s.
  • Attend student’s clinic visits or doctor appointments, upon approval of supervisor.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the St. Joseph County ISD Administrators.
