About The Position

This role involves providing patient treatments under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, adhering to an individualized patient plan of care and utilizing evidence-based practice. The Physical Therapist Assistant will implement treatments, communicate patient progress, assist in discharge planning, and provide patient and family education. The position also includes supervising students and volunteers, maintaining documentation standards, and contributing to a high-performance work environment. Secondary duties may include rotations, reporting on support services, assisting with staff orientation and training, and maintaining department supplies and cleanliness.

Requirements

  • Must perform all essential job duties of a staff Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Must be able to implement patient treatments within the established plan of care.
  • Must be able to communicate and report patient progress and discharge planning.
  • Must maintain effective and timely communication with team staff members.
  • Must document within state practice act guidelines and ensure documentation meets requirements of organization and payor sources.
  • Must provide patient treatments under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
  • Must assist in discharge planning.
  • Must provide patient and family education.
  • Must discuss patient concerns and barriers to progression or discharge.
  • Must report patient progress and changes in condition to PT.
  • Must exercise the skills, safeguards, and professional conduct of a Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Must supervise PTA clinical students, student volunteers, and shadow students.
  • Must be present and available as a resource for other physical therapy staff.
  • Must be professional in method of communication.
  • Must follow state practice act guidelines to remain within scope of practice.
  • Must demonstrate thorough and comprehensible documentation.
  • Must discuss changes to and progression of the POC and established goals with overseeing PT.
  • Must document patient response to treatment, progress notes, and discharge summaries within designated time frames.
  • Must contribute to a high-performance work environment.
  • Must complete other duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Must participate within departmental expectation of rotations per Physical Medicine and Rehab Therapy policy.
  • Must be responsible for reporting breakdown of necessary support services and providing suggestions for improvement.
  • Must assist in orienting/training staff members.
  • Must assist with departmental Performance Improvement Program.
  • Must maintain adequate supplies.
  • Must assist in keeping department clean and ready for patient treatment.

Responsibilities

  • Implements patient treatments within the established plan of care per state practice act.
  • Communicates patient progress and discharge planning with referring providers and overseeing Physical Therapist.
  • Maintains effective and timely communication with team staff members to optimize patient outcomes and discharge planning.
  • Documents patient treatments within state practice act guidelines and ensures documentation meets organizational and payor requirements.
  • Provides patient treatments under the supervision of a Physical Therapist within the individualized patient plan of care, utilizing evidence-based practice.
  • Assists in discharge planning, including home assessments, community outings, determination of adaptive equipment needs, and communication to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Provides patient and family education related to current condition, discharge planning, or other factors.
  • Participates in reporting to ancillary staff, patients, or families during team conference meetings.
  • Discusses patient concerns and barriers to progression or discharge with appropriate team members.
  • Reports patient progress and changes in condition to PT in a timely manner.
  • Exercises the skills, safeguards, and professional conduct of a Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Supervises PTA clinical students, student volunteers, and shadow students.
  • Acts as a resource for other physical therapy staff.
  • Maintains professional communication and strives to facilitate team rapport.
  • Follows state practice act guidelines to remain within scope of practice.
  • Demonstrates thorough and comprehensible documentation that supports clinical provision of care and optimal reimbursement.
  • Discusses changes to and progression of the POC and established goals with overseeing PT.

  • Contributes to a high-performance work environment by seeking additional resources to enhance and maintain current knowledge and skills.
  • Completes other duties and special projects as assigned by Manager or Director.
  • Participates in departmental rotations, which may include holiday and/or weekend rotations.
  • Reports breakdown of necessary support services and provides suggestions for improvement to Manager and/or Senior Therapist.
  • Assists in orienting/training staff members.
  • Assists with departmental Performance Improvement Program.
  • Maintains adequate supplies and assists in keeping the department clean and ready for patient treatment.
