About The Position

The Physical Education and/or Dance Education Teacher is responsible for the instruction of the specified content area in a classroom setting within grade levels K-12. All district employees must demonstrate regular and predictable attendance, support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan, engage in civility, respect, and professionalism, and maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.

Requirements

• Demonstrate regular and predictable attendance. Physical presence is expected as part of a reliable and predictable pattern of attendance.
• Support the district’s vision, mission, goals, and Strategic Plan.
• Engage in civility, respect, and professionalism.
• Maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of their positions.
• Reads, analyzes, and interprets all kinds of documents.
• Responds to inquiries or complaints from employees, regulatory agencies, or community.
• Writes speeches and effectively presents to managers, the public, and school board.
• Works with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry.
• Applies concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Solves practical problems and deals with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
• Interprets a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Standing, walking, sitting, balancing, stooping, kneeling, handling, keyboarding, talking and hearing.
• Lifting up to 10 pounds.
• Reaching with both dominant and non-dominant hand; overhead.
• Working in various climates and weather conditions, including outdoor and indoor areas.

Nice To Haves

• Florida Professional Educator Certificate in Physical Education or Dance Education is preferred.
• Eligibility for Florida Temporary Certificate in the content area is required.

Responsibilities

• Designs and implements appropriate instruction assigned in accordance with state standards, district curriculum, and students’ needs.
• Creates a positive educational climate for students to learn in an atmosphere of respect and rapport.
• Creates and delivers relevant and rigorous lessons that maximize student engagement and achievement.
• Utilizes a variety of teaching practices and methodologies that reflect diverse educational, cultural and linguistic backgrounds in order to meet the individual needs of students.
• Observes and evaluates student performance and mastery of standards, monitors student assessment data, and maintains student grades and attendance.
• Manages student behavior in the classroom by utilizing effective classroom management strategies and invoking appropriate disciplinary procedures.
• Communicates with parents and school/district personnel regarding student progress and encourages parental involvement.
• Takes all responsible precautions to provide for the health and safety of students and to protect equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records, inquiries, and data.
• Maintains appropriate certifications and professional development hours as required.
• Performs any other duties as assigned.
• Supervises students in order to ensure safety in all student areas, including but not limited to locker rooms, outdoor fields, studio, etc.
