About The Position

Marymount School seeks an enthusiastic and skilled Lower School Physical Education Teacher for students in Early Childhood through Grade 2. We value educators who stay current with best practices and who understand the importance of helping students develop lifelong healthy habits, emotional regulation skills, confidence, teamwork, and a positive relationship with movement and well-being. The ideal candidate brings experience in physical education, along with the ability to incorporate yoga, mindfulness, fitness, and social-emotional learning into an engaging curriculum. Beyond the classroom, teachers at Marymount contribute to the broader life of the school. P.E. teachers typically serve as coaches in our Athletics program and must possess a strong understanding of skill development and strategy in their area(s) of specialization. We hope to find a P.E. teacher who is also interested in coaching, including practice design, game management, player development, and team culture.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience teaching physical education in an Early Childhood or elementary setting.
  • Experience engaging and adapting instruction for diverse learners.
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to equity and belonging in teaching practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in physical education preferred.
  • Ability to incorporate yoga, mindfulness, fitness, and social-emotional learning into an engaging curriculum.
  • Interest in coaching, including practice design, game management, player development, and team culture.

Responsibilities

  • Teach physical education classes to students ranging from Early Childhood (3 years old) through Grade 2, and assist in Lower Middle School classes.
  • Participate actively in school life, including assemblies, professional development, and other community events.
  • Demonstrate strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues on curriculum design, assessment, and pedagogy.
  • Encourage students and help them develop healthy habits, body awareness, resilience, teamwork, self-confidence, and a positive relationship with movement and exercise.
  • Fulfill supervisory duties and other responsibilities as assigned by the divisional head and department chair.
  • Coach 2–3 seasons of Middle or Upper School athletics.
