About The Position

The Physical Education Teacher Assistant supports instruction and student supervision under the direction of a teacher. The role assists individual students and small groups, helps prepare classroom materials, supports testing and recordkeeping, and helps maintain classroom equipment and order. The assistant also supervises students in school settings inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty, and participates in staff development, faculty meetings, and assigned special events.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Paraprofessional certification or an associate's degree, two years of study at an institution of higher learning, or successful completion of the formal academic assessment required by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).
Valid Texas education aide certificate.
Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
Ability to work well with children.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Some experience working with children.

Responsibilities

Provide instruction to students under the direction of a teacher and work with individual students or small groups.
Assist the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays.
Assist with administering and scoring objective testing instruments or work assignments.
Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
Help the teacher keep administrative records and prepare required reports.
Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
Make the teacher aware of individual students' special needs or problems.
Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
