About The Position

Great Oaks Charter Schools is seeking a dynamic, creative, mission-aligned urban educator to join their team as a Physical Education & Health Teacher. Teachers at GO-NYC Charter School are responsible for preparing each of our students for college & career success through rigorous instruction and maintaining consistently high expectations for conduct. Teachers are models of the hard work, desire for learning, and character that we expect of our students. The school combines project-based learning, an advanced curriculum, and supplementary tutorial support to maximize student agency. They are seeking highly-talented, experienced, tenacious educators who enjoy thinking outside the box and share the belief that all students deserve a high-quality education. GO-NYC utilizes a full inclusion model which means that every core class is taught as an Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) classroom. Their classrooms typically have two co-teachers (one content, one special education) as well as an Americorps Fellow working with students every day. The school believes in the power of deeper learning and knows that learning is more than preparing students to be successful on a high-stakes standardized test, so they give students multiple and diverse opportunities to develop significant knowledge and skills, use their knowledge to produce something original, and connect their learning in every lesson to who they are and who they want to become. Requirements

Proven success in implementing high-quality instruction that leads to the improvement of student achievement in an urban school.
Exceptional relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate clearly to multiple stakeholders.
A strong academic record with a Bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university required.
Knowledge of middle & high school Physical Education & Health content
Extremely strong classroom management abilities
A strong belief that all students can succeed
A do-whatever-it-takes attitude including a willingness to work occasionally on the weekend or in the evening
An exceptional ability to respond well to feedback and implement it immediately
All staff are required to pass a background check through fingerprinting and receive security clearance to work at Great Oaks NYC.
Must also have proof of U.S citizenship or legal resident status.

Responsibilities

Executing detailed lesson plans mapped to a year-long academic plan to address learning needs.

Planning and implementing strategies to achieve targets related to student learning outcomes.
Working collaboratively with the principal and other teachers to develop and revise curriculum based on assessment data.
Maintaining an efficient, respectful, and positive tone in your classroom.
Utilizing time to maximize student learning and communicating a constant, tangible sense of urgency.
Ensuring that all students are on task at all times during a lesson.
Clearly enforcing and emphasizing school rules, values, and expectations.
Building relationships with students that demonstrate an open concern and a sense of responsibility for students’ academic and personal growth.
Supervising students during lunch and transition periods.
Putting in an extraordinary amount of time and effort to contribute to student and school success.
Independently assuming additional responsibilities when necessary and demonstrating leadership.
Making frequent phone calls, keeping parents informed of successes and struggles.
Maintaining an orderly school culture.
Occasionally leading professional development sessions.
Other duties that may be necessary to fulfill the mission of the school.
