About The Position

MiaPrep Online High School (MOHS) is seeking a passionate and resourceful Secondary Physical Education, Health, and Life Skills Teacher for a fully remote, asynchronous teaching role. This position focuses on student support, feedback, and mentorship, guiding students through a self-paced curriculum on MiaPrep.com. Teachers will provide coaching, small-group tutoring, and in-depth feedback on assignments. In addition to teaching, teachers will serve as Student Advisors to a caseload of up to 30 students, building relationships and helping them achieve their goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Physical Education (Kinesiology or Exercise Science), Education (with a focus on health/PE), or related field.
  • At least 3 years of full-time Physical Education and/or Health secondary teaching experience in the United States.
  • Comfortable teaching both Physical Education and Health.
  • Comfortable supporting students in Life Skills courses.
  • Professional experience supporting students in secondary education within the last 5 years.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Tech-savvy with an ability to learn new platforms quickly (gradebooks, Google Classroom, curriculum platforms, Google Workspace).
  • Proficiency in (or willingness to learn) responsible use of AI tools to increase efficiency in the education sector.
  • Candidates with at least one year of full-time international teaching experience at the secondary level must also have at least 2 years of full-time secondary teaching experience in the United States and an advanced degree in teaching or education from a U.S. university, and the international school must use the IB curriculum.

Nice To Haves

  • Personal training or fitness certification such as NASM, ACE, ISSA, or CrossFit.
  • Full-time high school teaching experience in the United States.
  • Online teaching experience.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate students' assignments for Physical Education, Health, and Life Skills courses, providing comprehensive feedback.
  • Host weekly virtual group tutoring sessions to clarify curriculum concepts and address student questions.
  • Provide personalized advising to a caseload of students, including quarterly check-ins and targeted support plans.
  • Identify struggling students and collaborate with support staff to provide tiered support solutions.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and students regarding academic matters.
  • Actively participate in school initiatives and contribute to the development and implementation of academic policies.
  • Lead or contribute to an extracurricular club or activity.
  • Uphold and contribute to the school's positive culture and values.
  • Identify areas for improvement and step up to provide support within the school community.
  • Respond to student safety and mental health concerns in accordance with crisis response protocols, including required training and administration of the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) when appropriate.
